Probably the best right now
I have been stalking for information on wedding photography/photographers over quite some time, more of picking up little tricks and trying hard to spot local venues around this sunny island. Not going into that line, just an interest since i have shot for a few friends (AND ONLY FOR CLOSE TRUSTED FRIENDS NOW). So far… recently… there’s only one or two wedding photographers who’s a clear cut above the rest. My all-time favourite wedding photographer would be Kelvin Koh from LightedPixels.
Apart from being featured in the papers recently, won don’t know how many awards recently (i don’t really care bout all the accolades one could get), all i could judge is by the work of the man himself, and it started by chancing upon his works in a Clubsnap thread, lots of photos. LOTS. And they are good. And when i really praise, it’s really that good.
It take’s experience to know the right angles when
everything around you is happening fast…
I love his technique - using mostly natural light and mostly going on aperture priority (me too! but recently i’ve been lazy, using M or Auto, and lots of the review & delete buttons. And i hate using flash photography unless no choice. :P ). Apart from his technical ability, he has the skill and fast reactions of a veteran journalistic photographer, he notes all the tiny details, spot the quick-gone expressions, gets the correct angles (lots of anticipation! which means very very experienced), ok in simple layman terms - he has ‘the eye for photography‘. The real deal, unlike many pretenders out there.
Kevin’s quick keen eyes
Few years back, i did come across some other company which had the word “pixel” in its name, and it produced really crappy wedding photos. The colours were mostly flat (not sure if it was printing fault), and really cheesy speech balloons dotted a wedding couple’s album all over. It’s was to an extent, a real turn off for me and my fiancĂ©e. So turned off that i was, i developed an allergy to the word “pixel” in any company’s name. And i believed it was just another D.I(digital imaging) company masquerading as a wedding photography studio.
Which was the reason, after coming across Kelvin’s LightedPixels (when it started to get famous), my first reactions was “wtf…don’t tell me it’s that company again…or did they sack the photographer working for them?”
The last time i spotted a book on Magnum was in M.Law’s office…kekeke *suaku*
But in recent months, i am really convinced, both the first ‘pixel‘ company and this are probably different companies. And if i happen to win big on lottery, first thing i would do would make an appointment with him. DEFINITELY. Why would i need lottery, as anyone’s guess, i couldn’t quite afford the fees of his exquisite skills which i felt the price does justify for his quality work. It just happens that i couldn’t afford it. Haha. So my advice to all searching for wedding photographers out there, and if you can afford, don’t miss out. Get this dude to shoot it. No regrets lah.
If only…
dream shoot in Netherlands… hehehehe
…which reminds me… i haven’t done processing/resizing my holiday photos.
*whine, hate D.i …*
