Yishun One Under

By lim peh wrote this

An unpleasant experience happened today, i was in the very train which suffered
service disruption” today…

11.35 - 11.40 : Started to rain while my train approached Yishun Mrt station

11.40 - 11.45 : train suddenly braked while coming into platform area of Yishun Mrt station

11.45 - 11.55 : Doors are not opened. Passengers on both sides of the door were wondering if it’s another
technical fault” and were expecting the usual announcement. Some aunties and uncles were seen being impatient to get off the train.

Passengers in and outside the train were starting to get curious, their handphone cameras go into action

11.55 - 12.05 : Mrt staff were seen walking up and down the platform looking down at the gap between train and platform. Curious passengers start to peek at the gap as well. Police arrived, torch lights were used, talk heard in the train, might be something dropped by someone onto the track.

12.05 - 12.10 : More waiting, curious passengers inside the train start to move to the rear carriages to check out certain commotion.

Passengers get excited/anxious when SCDF personnel start appearing

12.10 - 12.20 : SCDF personnel appears, commuters all getting excited. Passengers on the platform look distressed and one group of girls look sick and pointing under the train carriage (but pointing at the wrong spot).

Police tape is used to cordon off area, passengers city bound are urshered out of the station, advised to take a bus or taxi instead. Announcer, an indian lady staff, her voice is shaky.

SCDF personnel rushing up the escalator, while city bound passengers are urged to leave the station

Remaining passengers in affected train are urshered to the exit in the front

Train service disruption notice

City bound crowd are turned away, urged to take the bus or taxi instead

12.20 - 12.35 : Outside the station, saw an ambulance and a couple of SCDF vehicles, including a fire engine. My journalistic instincts kicked in, decided to wait around the ambulance area, while sms-ing my girl and friends what i thought had happened. Seems body extraction was going on at this time, soon they (SCDF) appeared with something/somebody on stretcher to put into the ambulance. Took a short video clip**. (see below, just happened to have my gf’s cam with me)
The not-so-urgent body language of the SCDF personnel tells me, the person they carried is not alive.
Rain stops.

Emergency vehicles on standby just outside the station

12.35 - 12.40 : Train service resumes, i decided to take the train to continue to my destination. Didn’t think much of it, incident probably would be splashed all over the internet forums, edmw and most likely Stomp site.
(I don’t like Stomp, it’s lame. It’s a platform for people who really have nothing better to do, but post articles which make others miserable, for really the most knn trivial matters.)

Night : I am surprised no forum talked about it, except edmw. Nothing on Stomp. Impossible. There were at least 30 passengers who whipped out their camera phones to take photos and videos of the train, SCDF personnel, policemen, ambulance and SCDF vehicles, including one aunty i saw, whipped out her nokia to shoot video of SCDF personnel running around.
It was obvious, it was a news blackout.
I’m just glad there’s no video out there showing the actual incident/disruption/accident. It would be distasteful of that to be shown online.

Someone on edmw mentioned seeing Tong Aik (undertakers) were at the station, which brings to the question, why are they there? If the SCDF “carried someone/something” onto the ambulance. A decoy? To make people believe “victim was sent to hospital” ? If no, then Tong Aik would be for show only at the station? Puzzling.

**
It was strange seeing at least 6 men carrying a stretcher on wheels down the stairs. Perhaps most of them were traumatized by the whole incident, perhaps they are not really prepared for such a situation, some had a fake smile to hide their fear, some looked quite shakened indeed.
